Teto Preto and Rakta are part of the Pop Montreal lineup
Two Brazilian bands are confirmed in the Pop Montreal, an independent music festival in Montreal, Canada. The shows of Teto Preto and Rakta are scheduled for September 28 and are the result of the last edition of the Brasil Music Summit (BMS), an event organized by Brasil Music Exchange (BME), a Brazilian music fostering project carried out by means of a partnership between Brasil, Música & Artes (BM&A) and the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil).
Both bands presented their showcases during the BMS and drew the attention of Daniel Seligman, organizer of the Pop Montreal festival, who was invited to come to Brazil to participate in such event.
To Leandro Ribeiro, BME Manager, it is very satisfying to make feasible projects like these, which not only used the public notice supporting shows abroad, but also participated in the Brasil Music Summit. “It shows us that we are on the right path. Our actions are completely integrated so that one leads to the next and so on, in a perfect cycle of support that allows for our members to take their first step into the global market”, he points out.
This will be the 18th edition of the Pop Montreal festival. During five days, from September 25 to 29, over 400 artists will perform for an audience composed of over 60 thousand people. Besides music concerts, the event also includes symposiums, visual arts and art exhibitions, fashion shows, film exhibition and parties.
According to Thiago Franco, band producer, the shows at the Pop Montreal are a call to all people, regardless of gender, race or sexual orientation, to participate in this ritual that transforms grieving into fight. “Having the opportunity to take our work to nice places like this is a pleasure but with a Brazilian touch: it feels like joy and despair at the same time”.
The first works of Teto Preto were released in 2016 under the label MAMBA rec, named after the event that takes place regularly in São Paulo, the Mamba Negra party. The EP “Gasolina” was released as a vinyl record with two remarkable tracks: “Já Deu Pra Sentir” and “Gasolina”. Then, in 2018, “Bate Mais” was the single released before the first studio album of the band entitled “Pedra Preta”.
The group is composed of William Sprocati, trombone and percussion; Savio de Queiroz, producer and synthesizers; Laura Diaz, vocals; Pedro Zopelar, DJ; and Loic Koutana, performer.
On the other hand, Rakta’s music is pretty different: rock songs with punk influence. The trio was created in 2011 and is composed of Maurício Takara (percussion and drums), Carla Boregas (bass and electronics) and Paula Rebellato (synthesizer and vocals).
The group from São Paulo has three albums in its discography: “Typical Girls” (2016), “Oculto Pelos Seres” (2017) and “Falha Comum”, released this year.
