Jazzahead generates USD 390 thousand in deals for the 26 companies that are members of BME

In its 13th edition, Jazzahead, one of the world’s largest jazz business fairs, which took place in the German city of Bremen from April 25 through 28, generated USD 390 thousand in prospective deals and over 271 major contacts with countries such as Germany, France, Holland, Italy, England, Switzerland, India and Russia for 26 Brazilian companies. The national presence in the event was headed by Brasil Music Exchange (BME), a Brazilian music fostering project carried out by means of a partnership between Brasil, Música & Artes (BM&A) and the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil).

The agenda organized by such project included, besides the Brazilian stand, business rounds and happy hours. In a partnership with jazz singer Dani Gurgel, from company Da Pá Virada, the project also organized a roundtable in April 26 with the theme “Modern Jazz World Collective”, which counted on the presence of artists from all over the world.

The official program of the event also included the performance of Brazilian band Ludere on the Overseas Night stage, on April 27. Philippe Baden Powell, the band’s pianist, says about their participation in the fair: “This performance was very important to us, because in this room are all those responsible for the organization of programs, jazz labels, editors… the professionals who work with music, and having the chance of representing the Brazilian music abroad is something of great importance”.

To Esdras Nogueira, from company Sema Pensa e Faz, which participates in the event for the third consecutive year, being a constant presence makes the difference regarding results. “In the second year, I was already able to organize a tour. Then we closed a deal with a booker, now we made a deal with a label. All of this is the result of meeting people. This mission is important not only because of the fair itself, but because of everything involved in the organization of shows for Brazilian artists abroad. Next year we will be back”, he states.

Among the professionals who participated in the event for the first time is Juliana da Silva, from the company named after her. She points out that was the support from BME that allowed her participation in the fair. “My first time in Jazzahead could not have been better: on one side, the fair generated many interesting contacts; on the other side, the BME stand gave me a solid support by means of its competent and friendly team. I am sure it will generate good results”, she says.
