Emicida and duo Ibeyi work together again and release a new single, “Libre”
Brazilian rapper Emicida and French-Cuban duo Ibeyi, composed of twin sisters Lisa-Kaindé and Naomi Díaz, release a new single, “Libre”. The song will be performed during the 2019 edition of Rock in Rio, taking place in October 3 in Rio de Janeiro.
The song combines a funk-inspired beat with Latin rhythms and spreads the message of freedom. In “Libre”, the trio plays with the Portuguese word “nós” (us), referring to the rapper’s motto “a rua é noiz” (the street is us), since in English the word sounds like “noise”, acquiring a new meaning.
This is not the first time the artists work together. Last year, their collaboration resulted in the song “Hacía El Amor”, recorded while the twins were promoting the album “Ash” in Brazil.
In such song, Emicida also speaks in Spanish: “Invisible a los problemas, mi poemas son el puente. Libre, cuerpo, mente”, elevating love and equality.
Emicida is a major rapper in Brazil. His career includes three studio albums and three live records. His most recent work, the album entitled “10 anos de triunfo”, was released in October 2018. On their turn, the French-Cuban twin sisters Lisa-Kaindé and Naomi Díaz released the EP “Oya” in 2014 and their first studio album, “Ibeyi”, in 2015, a work with intimate lyrics and African influences.
