Brazilian singers Pitty, Luísa Sonza and Iza win the Women’s Music Event Awards

The 3rd edition of the Women’s Music Event Awards, which took place last Tuesday (3), announced singers Pitty, Luísa Sonza and Iza as some of the winners. The prize that acknowledges female voices in Brazil was aired by TV channel TNT and hosted by Preta Gil.

Pitty won in the Singer and Alternative Music categories for her song “Noite Inteira”. Luísa Souza was the winner in the Pop Music category for the song “Boa Menina”, while Iza took home the Music Video trophy for her song “Brisa”.

This year, the expert jury awarded prizes to nine categories: Music producer, Music video director, Instrumentalist, Composer, Music entrepreneur (category supported by Eqlibri), Music concert, Music journalist, Radio broadcaster, as well as the new one: “Escuta as Minas” (Listen to the Chicks), a category supported by streaming platform Spotify.

The audience, on their turn, voted in seven categories: Album, Singer, DJ, Mainstream Music, Alternative Music, Music Video and Breakthrough Artist.

All categories and nominees were based on standouts and releases occurred from August 2018 to August 2019. The ceremony’s guest of honor was singer Gal Costa, who is still one of the most exciting voices in Brazil. As in all the previous editions, the Women’s Music Event Awards also paid a postmortem tribute, this year to deceased singer Beth Carvalho, who died last April at the age of 72.

About Pitty:

Pitty is a singer, song writer, producer, writer, businesswoman, host and multi-instrumentalist. Born in the State of Bahia, she has been singing alternative and punk rock songs, among other rhythms, since she was 17. The artist released 6 albums so far: “Admirável Chip Novo” (2003), “Anacrônico” (2005), “Chiaroscuro” (2009), “Agridoce” (as a duet with Martin Mendonça) (2011), “Setevidas” (2014) and “Matriz” (2019).

About Luísa Sonza:

Born and raised in the City of Tuparendi, countryside of the State of Rio Grande do Sul, Luísa Gerloff Sonza is a Brazilian pop singer, song writer and instrumentalist. She started her career performing in small music festivals, and at the age of 7 she joined Banda Sol Maior, remaining in the group until her teens. In 2019 she released her first album, “Pandora”.

About Iza:

Isabela Cristina Correia de Lima, most widely known as Iza, is a Brazilian singer, song writer, host and adwoman. Native of Rio de Janeiro, she sings R&B and pop songs. Her first album, “Dona de Mim”, was released in 2018 and nominated for the Latin Grammy Awards in the Best Portuguese Language Contemporary Pop Album category. The singer is currently one of the judges on the TV show The Voice Brasil, and she also dubbed Nala in the Brazilian version of The Lion King animated feature film.
