Group of 30 companies prospects over USD 1 million at Womex
A group of 30 Brazilian companies of the music market has participated at the Womex (the World Music Expo) in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (Spain) from October 24th to 28th. The businessmen have prospected over USD 1 million and established around 500 contacts with relevant professionals in the Brazilian music market, such as the United Kingdom, France, Canada, Germany, and Denmark.
The national presence is led by the Brasil Music Exchange (BME), a Brazilian music internationalization project carried out through a partnership between Brasil, Música & Artes (BM&A) and the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil). The Womex initiative is also supported by the Brazilian Micro and Small Enterprises’ Support Service of Rio de Janeiro (Sebrae- RJ) through the Estrombo Project.
“Womex is one of the world’s main events in the music market. This year, we organized various matchmaking events with the delegations of France, Canada, and UK, including festivals, concert halls and cultural centers around the world, which generated significant results”, says Leandro Ribeiro, BM&A manager.
The coordinator of sector projects of services and creative economy of Apex-Brasil, Christiano Braga, verified an intensification of the relevance of the Brazilian delegation. “This year, it was very promising to be here, both for the renewal of Brazilian companies, and for the consolidation of some artists who have been working with us for some time. I was very impressed with the results”, he explained.
One of the main attractions of the Brazilian delegation was the Liniker & Os Caramelows showcase, which took place on October 27th, and also received support from BME. For Ricardo Rodrigues, of Let’s Gig company, who represents the band, this presentation means the closing of a very successful cycle. “It is my second participation at Womex. I came for the first time in 2016, also with the support of BME. At that time I made the contacts to close the first international tours of Liniker and the Caramelows and, this year, the last show of our tour through Europe was precisely here”, he said.
More contacts and more business
Anamaria Rigotto, of Casa de Fulô Produções, who represents the artists Marco Lobo and Virgínia Rodrigues, noticed a boost to the business generated. “I was able to talk to a lot of people who really had something to do with the artists I represent. All the planning previously made together with the project team was essential to the success of the business rounds. The business rounds have allowed my access to bookers and organizers of festivals such as, Oslo Festival, Masala Jazz Festival, and Sunfest of Canada, among others”, she says.
The next edition of Womex takes place in October 2019 in Finland.
