Brazilian delegation prospects USD 1 million at Womex 2017
The 2017 edition of Womex (World Music Expo) yielded positive results for the 25 Brazilian companies that participated in the event held in the city of Katowice, Poland. The national delegation prospected USD 1 million in new business and established more than 700 contacts through meetings between festival organizers, record labels, booking agents and publishers from France, Spain, Portugal, Colombia, Switzerland, Germany, Mexico, the United Kingdom and Canada. The event also held a happy hour for relations and showcase of the group Metá Metá , held on the 27th.
The action is promoted by the Brasil Music Exchange (BME) – a music internationalization project carried out in a partnership between Brasil Música & Artes (BM&A) and the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil) – with the support of Sebrae-RJ and Conexão Cultura DF, a project of the Federal District secretary of culture.
According to André Bourgeois, of the company Urban Jungle, responsible for the careers of Céu, Bixiga 70 and Chico César, Brazil is gaining international visibility. “The work carried out by Brasil Music Exchange is one of the best initiatives in the area of exporting Brazilian culture today. Our delegation is becoming more and more representative and Brazil has more visibility at the event every year,” he says.
The Brazilian group included managers and labels of artists such as Aláfia, Céu, Emicida, Lineker, Moreno Veloso and Paulinho da Viola. “Once again, this year we had a strong presence at Womex, one of the world’s main events in the industry. We attracted new business and drew public attention to the quality and diversity of Brazilian music,” Leandro Ribeiro, BME manager, concludes.
